Update: Most of the activists from Baltimore have now been indicted on Felony Riot charges. This charge caries up to 10 years in prison and $25,000 in fines. We are awaiting status hearings in March 2017.
On January 20, 2017, DC police brutalized and mass arrested citizens during protests against the inauguration of Donald Trump. Tear gas, batons, and pepper spray were used indiscriminately, including on children, the elderly, and disabled. Two members of the #Baltimore13 were seriously injured from concussion grenades and rubber bullets (Stingballs). Hundreds were detained outdoors for more than 6 hours, without food, water, or access to bathrooms. Some were handcuffed in paddy wagons for almost 5 hours before being shuffled around different precinct jails into the morning hours of 1/21. Most were in police custody around 36 hours, not being released until near midnight 1/21.
The state is trying to send a message: Trump's fascist administration will not tolerate dissent. DC police haven't conducted mass arrests or used chemical weapons on protesters in almost 15 years. This moment is exceptional. They want to scare our movements into silence.
We are raising money for the legal defense of 13 protesters from Baltimore who put their bodies on the line that day. This is the fight of their lives. Please donate, and help RESIST the new regime's plans to criminalize protest.
hasta la victoria siempre,
friends of the #Baltimore13
