Mattelyn (Mattie) Magill was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia T-Cell on July 18th, 2011 just 9 days before her 10th birthday. The Leukemic cells spread through her entire body so quickly that by the time she was taken to the hospital she could barely breathe and was in renal failure. Mattie was admitted instantly to ICU where she was placed on full dialysis and intense chemotherapy. After just one month of treatment the Doctors gave us the great news that she was in remission.
Despite the good news, Mattie still had a long road ahead. She spent the next several months continuing treatments, spending almost every other week in inpatient care at the hospital. With only a few weeks left Mattie was looking forward to finally being on maintenance where she would no longer have to stay in the hospital.
Two weeks ago, Mattie started having headaches and after another lumbar puncture the doctors told us that Mattie has had a relapse. The leukemia is back, and the only option now is for Mattie to have a Bone Marrow Transplant and full radiation. This is a very long process involving many more weeks of inpatient treatment where Mattie will have to stay in isolation because her immune system will be completely compromised.
Regular household finances coupled with the growing medical bills are causing a struggle on the entire family. We are asking for those who can to make a donation please consider doing so to help our family get through this time and continue to focus on getting Mattie better.
Thank you for considering, every little bit helps.
